Took my son and his family to PoPie1929 after a very long day of rugby games last Saturday, and I must say what a treat! It was our first time there. We were greeted when we walked in, and told our greeter Mone that it was our first time. We all had questions about the menu, and he took the time to walk us through the food choices. We ordered calamari fries, sweet potato cheese sticks, 4 Cream pies, a curry pie, a bulgogie pie, a shrimp aglio e olio pasta bowl, a passion fruit ade and several fountain drinks. My grandsons are 5, 12 & 13 and enjoyed everything. The calamari fries were mine, but we all enjoyed them and the dipping sauce, especially the 13yo. The 5yo along with his mom & I ate the sweet potato cheese sticks, so yummy with the ranch sauce, what a great combo. Every pie we ate was so bomb. I've lived in New Zealand on & off for 20 years, and I know meat pies, especially chicken and the Cream pie, which is a creamy chicken was so, so yummy. Beautiful flakey crust & the filling was delicious. My son had the bulgogie pie and said he'd order that again. And the shrimp pasta bowl the 12yo tore it up, hahaha. I also had the curry pie which was super yummy, & passion fruit ade was very refreshing. We are all returning again next Saturday after the grandkids rugby games, and I'm having the curry & cream pies again for sure. I was eyeing the shrimp risotto, and might have too. Also JJ the owner helped serve us our meal, and that was a treat to talk with him for a bit. If you want good food, appetizers & drinks, this is the place in AF.

My hubby and I were wanting pasta for dinner and looking up local places when we came across this restaurant. We got the Carbonara and added chicken to it. It was DELICIOUS!! I was so surprised how tender the chicken was and loved the dish flavor and quality. Seriously going back soon to try new things. They have such a wide variety of food to choose from that they probably have something everyone would enjoy! I definitely want to mention the staff. The customer service was phenomenal! The gentleman taking our order gave us recommendations with great explanations, checked in on us during our meal, brought us a sample of one of their signature drinks, (which was fresh and amazing btw), and also recommended that we take home some of their pies, indicating that they reheat well. Super impressed by his efforts both from a customer standpoint but also the employer perspective. He was genuine, friendly, great employee and added to the experience. 10/10 experience and I'm planning on telling everyone about it that I can because quality like this needs to be shared and mom and pop shops like this deserve the support!

I’ve been back 3 times in three days. That should tell you everything you need to know. This little restaurant is putting out food at a higher quality level than one would expect in such a low key spot. The food ranges from informal but delicious meat pies to pasta and risotto dishes that would be stars of the menu in restaurants catering to a much higher priced clientele. There was another group in there today and I couldn’t help but over hear that they too were really happy with their meals. I’ve had two of the meat pie options and enjoyed them both. The first visit I had spaghetti Aglio Olio with shrimp. The pasta was Al dente and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Today I was wanting to try the risotto. I grew up in my Italian grandmothers kitchen, I spent a month in Italy last summer, and the steak risotto was will rank as one of my favorite dishes of all time. I will measure very other risotto i eat against this one for a pretty long time. Suitable for either take out or dine in. Give this place a shot. I’m considering my return visit already.
